The rank structure of any organization can either hinder or improve the quality of play within. The rank system in The Notum Ghost Hunters is based partially on roleplay (i.e your character) and partially on you (i.e. your maturity and responsiblity). The higher end ranks do hold a status that should not be ignored by anyone.
Ranks are as follows:
The President - There can be only one president in a department organization. Since there is only one president title, the president will promote all his/her alternate characters to the rank of Squad Commander for purposes of maintaining control throughout all aspects of play.
Generals - There will be a limited number of generals in the overall structure of the organization. There will be an uneven number of generals to form a Commonwealth and 1 general for each division created plus a few more for general command. Any other positions created will be appointed rank accordingly.
Squad Commanders - There will be a decent number of Squad Commanders in the overall structure of the organization. Each General may appoint or elect three Squad Commanders to operate under their guidance (still respecting the overall chain of command). In addition, anyone considered to be a full time recruiter, trainer, or other relative position will also be awarded the rank of Squad Commander for promotion purposes. The presidents alternate characters (7+) will also hold this rank.
Unit Commander - This will be the more common rank in the organization. Anyone who has proven themselves worthy enough to be promoted will be promoted to Unit Commander. This allows the proven member to recruit applicants into the organization as well as kick out applicants (who are probationary until promoted) who display acts of gross misconduct.
Unit Leader and Unit Member - This will be an uncommon rank and should not be seen often. It will only be used on a long term basis for those who request it as a personal honor. Unit Commanders may only promote someone to the rank of Unit Leader (because the person being promoted must be one rank below the promoter). This is not preffered but we realize it may happen to those who are learning the rank system.
Applicant - This will be the most common rank in the organization. Everyone who is recruited, without someone to step up as a sponsor (to speak well on their behalf) will remain an applicant for a undetermined amount of time. It will be the duty of the proven members (Unit Commanders and above) to decide when an applicant is ready to be promoted above this rank. Promotions may occur at any time.
The Commonwealth
The Commonwealth will be composed of an uneven number of Generals who each hold the power of one vote. Issues of dispute will be brought to the Commonwealth by anyone (includiing applicants) for them to be resolved, by discussion or vote. It is the duty of the Commonwealth to evaluate the issues and decide on the best course of action. It is also the duty of the Commonwealth to supervise all Division Generals and ensure that the General's respective division is well guided and not lacking in command.
Division Generals
The Division Generals will be appointed by the Commonwealthto a specific division. It is the duty of the Division General to run and operate their division to the best of their ability, relying on the Commonwealth for support. The Division General holds the power to appeal any Commonwealth decision they disagree with in which case the issue will be put to a wider vote (President, Commonwealth, and Generals). Otherwise, the Division General has the authority to run their division as they see fit.
Impeachment
To remove a member from their position (not rank) due to percieved gross misconduct, a charge must be brought by an official member (Unit Commander or above). It will then be put to a member vote in which case a super majority (80% or better) must agree to impeach. The super majority consists of all ranks Unit Commander and above, not applicants. If a member is impeached from their position, it is then up to the council to decide if the member may maintain their rank or if a demotion is in order.
Gross Misconduct
Gross Misconduct is considered member abuse, excessive vulgarity, ninjalooting, harrassment, making FALSE allegations and other forms of unacceptable behavior that offends the majority. Charges of Gross Misconduct are taken very seriously, in fact, as seriously as making false allegations. It is suggested a strong dose of caution be used before making such a serious claim.
Alternative Characters
Alternative characters are expected and encouraged. As a rule of thumb, we ask that members keep their alternative characters at the rank of Unit Commander unless special circumstances permit. The Notum Ghost Hunters would like to see a solitary character hold high rank and it is preffered that character be your main source of play.
